Without an audit all the energy work done in a house is guess work. An audit tells us exactly what and where the issues are in a house. An audit assures you that when you invest the money to remodel or to upgrade the quality of your living environment, you will get your money's worth. You receive a value added return in your quality of life and your investment dollar in energy savings and home value!
* An Audit reveals the places that allows air to move into and out of your home causing your heating and air conditioning costs to be higher than they should be.
* An Audit shows you just how efficiently your home appliances are working in dollars and cents.
* An Audit reveals just how much insulation is in your basement, attic and walls. It more importantly reveals where the contractor failed to insulate properly or missed areas completely.
* An Audit reveals the quality of the ductwork within your home. More important than the heating and cooling unit is the way the ductwork was installed in the house. Was the size correct, were the angles properly fitted, are there enough returns to balance incoming and outgoing air, is the ductwork sealed to make a closed chamber?
* Simply taking these measures in your home can immediately drop you monthly utility bills by as much as 20-30% and change the comfort level of your home completely.
* An Audit should be done before any remodeling, window or door changes, heating or air conditioning replacements, before your buy or sell a house!
Why do the Audit NOW? The Home Performance with Energy Star Programs have incentives or rebates to take care of Audit Cost! Generally the cost is Paid Back to you by the ENERGY PROGRAM!
The "ENERGY STAR" program is made available though several agencies both Federal, State and Local. Each group chooses how to use the dollars to help their customers. The program with EPA, DNR, Local Non-Profit, Local utility and other participating partners is one of the best in the country. Working with auditors and contractors the program guidelines worked out so that utility customers would receive substanial help with the cost of home energy improvements.
The three stage audit process:
Stage 1: The comprehensive audit takes between 3 and 4 hours in the home. The auditor will go into the basement or crawlspace, the attic and appliance rooms and measure the homes breathing or air exchange rate with the blower door test. The auditor will then look in the invisible places with the infra-red camera to see what our eyes cannot. He/she will calculate the efficiency of the combustion chambers on your gas appliances. He will evaluate the energy load of your windows and doors and will take pictures of all he sees for inclusion in the "Scope of Work Report".
Stage 2: Presentation of the "Scope of Work" The auditor will then spend an additional 2 to 3 hours completing the scope of work to be shared with you. He/she will also cover the recommendations that can be done, in the order they should be done and how the rebates, tax credits, and incentives will work for you. After that our Auditor will set up the second in-home visit to share the "Scope of Work" with you. The object of this visit is to share our findings with you in person so you can completely understand you options and choices in making your house as energy efficient as possible.
Stage 3: Once you have completed one of the items in the report, then we go to:"Audit # 2". The Post Test. This is a verification audit and is used by the agencies to make sure that the work was completed with quality and safety.
This information is then sent to the agencies for the rebates. The net result is that you get very useful and valuable information at a net cost of ZERO. $0.00! Plus an average savings on your energy bill of $40 to $60 a month or $480 to $720 dollars per year!
